I normally don’t believe in New Year’s resolution, because
1) One doesn’t have to wait for a certain date to decide to improve oneself.
2) Plans may have specific timings, moods, or should be prioritized only under certain situations.
3) The list is so long that a person may not be able to do it all at once. There’s a thing called prioritization.
Having said that, here’s the list:
To buy:
1) Leather shoes – done! Authentic black leather shoes from Aldo.
2) Leather bag – done! Kenneth Cole Reaction “Double Play” Double Gusset Top Zip Expandable leather portfolio briefcase (Mfg Part#: 528571). Expensive, but I deserve this kick-ass reward.
3) A perfume to replace my current L’eau d’Issey Miyake pour Homme. My current consideration is Allure
Homme Sport by Chanel because I prefer the clean fresh sporty scent. Someday, I will try Green Irish Tweed or Millesime
Imperial by Creed, or Terre d’Hermes.
4) A high-end compact camera. Current choice: Panasonic Lumix LX5. Being a gadget freak, I will always be tempted to prefer the ones with higher technical specifications, but portability is important, and gadgets cannot surpass the skills of the photographer behind it. I will just give my well-abused camera (Lumix ZS3, 12x zoom) to my sister
5) A very stable laptop: MacBook Pro, but I have to wait for the 2012 version. According to the rumors, it will have the new Ivy Bridge processors from Intel, a retina display, and a higher resolution. I’d rather wait for this than buy the current models for the same price. I will justify the splurge by creating a need to be familiar with OS X. Can I buy one with a French AZERTY keyboard (not the Canadian French keyboard layout)?
6) A high-capacity external hard disk drive. Because my Seagate 1 TB is not enough!
7) Nice to have:Kindle touch. I want to read more books too!
To do:
1) Get a new job! Top priority.
2) Have a one-time invest in mutual funds or unit investment trust funds (in a bank)
3) Nice to have: learn how to cook
4) Nice to have: join a non-profit organization. Being a victim of Hedonistic treadmill, I normally fail to see
that I have achieved so many things that I consider important, and it feels good to help other people.
To do regularly:
1) Monitor daily expenses by writing them on my Starbucks planner, to be more conscious about spending
2) Watch films (english films, french films). This is a better form of entertainment over TV, and this is something that we nerds need to improve on: culture.
3) Maintain a Variable Universal Life insurance policy
4) Learn another foreign language in addition to French. The choice primarily depends on the location of the school and the schedule of the classes. Current choice: German (my preference to top Indo-European languages is obvious). I’ve been wanting to do this but my schedule keeps on changing!
5) Replace my clothes and just give my current clothes away to those who are in need. I feel that the clothes that I wear to work are out of fashion or not stylish enough. I also need to study the style dos and don’ts while surfing the internet. I’d like to believe that there’s nothing wrong with my taste, but the lousy dressers also think that their style is perfectly fine!
6) Go back to blogging!
There are other things that I wanted to add too, but I’m not sure if I can commit to them: paying my mother’s debts, including some exercise to my daily lifestyle without going to the gym, changing my eating lifestyle, or considering going back to studying MBA.
Let’s see what happens!
